Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Sushil Modi, has found himself at the center of controversy after being accused of making lewd comments regarding the esteemed royal family of Cooch Behar.
The Trinamool Congress has expressed strong opposition to Modi's remarks and issued a warning of taking to the streets if he fails to retract his statement. The incident unfolded when Sushil Modi, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, visited the ancient Raj Mahal of Cooch Behar.
Following his visit, he made comments that drew criticism from various quarters. Modi reportedly remarked that the palace of Cooch Behar was impressive but highlighted that it was built using the funds of the poor people, suggesting a lack of accountability on the part of the kings and maharajas of that era.
The comments made by Modi have been perceived as disrespectful and derogatory towards the royal family of Cooch Behar, particularly in reference to Raja Maharaja of Cooch Behar and Princess Gayatri Devi of Cooch Behar, who are revered figures in the region's history and culture.
